Sr. Toxicologist

Managerial Responsibilities:

• Oversee daily operations of Toxicology Department
• Ensure the Accessioning has assigned receiving, accessioning, screening, and other duties to staff as needed dictate
• Assign and monitor toxicology staff for the LCMS Set up, instrument maintenance/programming and review of LCMS data
• Function as the emergency back up when needed to perform the final approval of results.
• Training/retraining of staff as needed in all aspects of the confirmation areas and other responsibilities of subordinates as necessary
• Monitor and assist in the screening area if necessary
• Monitor performance of the staff and coordinate positive recognition of staff and/or corrective action with the Director of Laboratory Operations and if necessary Human Resources
• Assign staff to monitor inventory. Compile inventory needs and coordinate with appropriate staff/vendors to ensure orders are placed in a timely manner.
• Be the overall internal point of contact for troubleshooting all instrumentation utilized for the confirmation process and coordinate with Technical Supervisor as needed to ensure minimal downtime and continued highest quality of testing
• Ensure all logs (temperature, humidity, bench cleaning and instruments) in all areas are properly completed daily and/or as necessary as well as review the logs and document monthly

Clinical duties/responsibilities:

Daily & Weekly maintenance on Hamilton and sample preparation, includes creating batches/worklists and programming of LC/MSMS systems

• Monitor temperature of incubator
• Verify screening data
• Monitor pending lists for worklists A1, B1, C1 and Screening Preparation of calibrators/controls as necessary for Confirmation testing
• Work with staff on research/development and validation of methods, at the direction of the Supervising Toxicologist.

Common items for all staff:

• Replace HEPA filters as necessary
• Take out trash from storage area and breakroom as needed Monitor maintenance requirements for items such as the fume hood, balance, weights, balance, centrifuges
• Monitoring inventory for primary responsibilities along with any observations of low inventory anywhere in facility (laboratory, office, breakroom, restrooms or any other common area)
• Clean glassware Receive, breakroom unpack and log (when necessary) supplies for laboratory, restrooms, office, or any other area)
• Monitor and organizing cleaning/defrosting of refrigerators/freezers
• Monitor miscellaneous supplies and restock from storage items such as paper towels, hand soap, toilet paper, etc.
• Check mail
• Continue cross training in areas where training has not been completed or competency has not been shown at the direction of the Laboratory Director or Technical Supervisor.
