Registered Nurse (RN) - Outpatient Oncology Infusion
Join Aurora Health Care as a Registered Nurse in our Outpatient Oncology Infusion unit. This role involves providing ongoing care, administering chemotherapy, and coordinating patient treatment plans.
Base pay range
$34.90/hr - $52.35/hr
Responsibilities
- Utilize the nursing process to provide ongoing care according to age?specific and specialty?specific needs of patients.
- Assess educational needs and provide teaching and counseling to patients and families.
- Integrate health promotion, symptom assessment, and preventive care into treatment plans.
- Assess social determinants of health and coordinate care with appropriate resources such as navigation and social work.
- Assume primary responsibility for caseloads of patients in the specialty area.
- Anticipate and recognize changes in patient status and determine priorities of care based on treatment plans.
- Provide ongoing assessment of patient response to services and apply interventions as appropriate.
- Update and revise care plans as needed and communicate with physicians and other providers to confirm, correlate, and update patient plans.
- Coordinate care in alignment with specialty care, such as oral chemotherapy plans in oncology settings.
- Administer medications, including chemotherapy, biologic therapies, antibiotics, and other intravenous medications, when assigned to an infusion center.
- Perform central venous access device management according to policy.
- Perform transfusion of blood products and therapeutic phlebotomy per guidelines and policies.
- Provide telephone consultation/triage and care coordination to patients, families, and significant others per protocol and policies.
- Maintain and update accurate clinical and patient records according to system policies and state and federal guidelines.
- Assist in the development and implementation of staff orientation and educational activities.
- Follow published policies and procedures and regularly monitor changes or additions to them.
- Take ownership of professional development in the specialty, continually advance knowledge and practice, and seek certification as warranted.
- Share acquired knowledge with leaders and team members to elevate quality of care in alignment with current clinical and industry standards.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age?appropriate care, assess data reflective of patient status, and interpret information to identify each patients requirements relative to their age?specific needs.
Licensure, Registration And/or Certification Required
- Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the team member practices.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 6 months.
- ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy Certification within 30 days of hire (preferred upon hire).
- OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse) preferred for oncology departments; CRNI (Certified Registered Nurse Infusion) preferred for non?chemotherapy infusion settings.
Education Required
- Associates Degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred.
Experience Required
- Typically requires 2 years of clinical experience that includes experience in a specialty area.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
- Ability to work independently and make sound judgments.
- Exceptional organization and communication skills (oral and written) and customer service skills.
- Ability to multi?task with frequent interruptions.
- Ability to work with diverse patient populations.
Physical Requirements And Working Conditions
- May be exposed to cytotoxic and hazardous waste, blood and body fluids, and communicable diseases; protective clothing and equipment must be worn as necessary.
- Must sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach above shoulders throughout the workday.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist, lift up to 20 lbs over the head, carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance, push/pull with 30 lbs of force, and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs with a second person present.
- Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with the ability to use fine hand manipulation skills for IV insertion and other procedures/functions.
- Operate all equipment necessary to perform the job.
