The Impact You Will Make:

Reporting directly to the Machining Plant Manager, the 2nd Shift Machining Supervisor oversees machining operations during the evening shift, ensuring production schedules are met while maintaining safety, quality, and efficiency. This role provides direct leadership to the 2nd shift team, coordinates resources, and ensures smooth handoff between 1st and 3rd shifts. The supervisor is expected to resolve issues independently with limited on-site support and drive continuous improvement across machining operations.

A Typical Day:

• Lead 2nd shift machining operations to achieve daily production schedules, quality standards, and labor utilization goals.
• Ensure safe working practices across all machining cells; perform daily safety checks (Walk & Talk, JSA).
• Monitor ShopVue and performance boards to track KPIs (earned hours, efficiency, downtime, scrap/variance).
• Manage shift-level issues including absenteeism, break compliance, and adherence to safety/quality standards.
• Oversee equipment performance: monitor cycle times, downtime events, and escalate critical maintenance needs.
• Provide on-the-job training for machinists; coach deviations, reinforce standard work, and develop multi-skill capability.
• Conduct 2nd shift Tier-1 meetings and ensure accurate and timely communication of performance and issues to 1st/3rd shifts and APU Manager.
• Approve and adjust employee timecards for accuracy and payroll compliance.
• Lead 5S and Kaizen activities within machining; support RCA/PDCA for downtime, scrap, and quality concerns.
• Ensure smooth end-of-shift handoff through written updates, production reporting, and escalation of unresolved issues.

Your Expertise:

• High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Management, Manufacturing, or equivalent experience preferred.
• 3+ years in a machining/manufacturing environment, including 2+ years in a supervisory or lead role.
• Strong understanding of machining processes, OEE, cycle time management, and scrap reduction.
• Effective leadership, planning, and communication skills, especially in a shift environment with limited support staff.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint) and production systems (ShopVue or equivalent).
• Ability to handle multiple priorities and make decisions independently during 2nd shift.

Targeted Attributes:

• Proven ability to build accountability and teamwork on off-shifts.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making in machining environments.
• Experience leading continuous improvement (5S, Kaizen, TPM, PDCA).
• Familiarity with OSHA and EHS standards in machining operations.

Your Location:

This position is onsite Monday through Friday at our Pageland, South Carolina foundry.
