Job Description

We're looking for a skilled, professional Special Education Teacher to join our team. The successful candidate must have strong classroom management skills and is able to supervise para-professionals with-in their classroom. You must be able to create differentiated lesson plans for a self-contained classroom, A successful candidate will have experience meeting the needs of students with both mild and severe emotional and behavioral disabilities in a private school setting. Provides individualized instruction based on each child's goals and abilities, while providing a structured yet nurturing environment.

Qualifications:

  • Holds a VDOE Teacher’s License
  • Hold a Bachelor’s Degree or higher
  • You must be creative, energetic, innovative and have a desire to make a difference in the lives of our students.
  • Experience in education or work experience with children in special education.
  • Experience in teaching functional life skills and pre-vocational skills is welcomed.
  • Demonstrates an ability to teach special education students identified as emotionally disturbed, autistic and/or learning disabled.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work effectively with others, such as, students, teachers, therapist, parent/guardians, involved agencies, community and administration.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for students. (Classroom management)
  • Maintain a classroom environment where students feel safe to express their thoughts and feelings.
  • Provide students with opportunities to develop social skills that will help them succeed in school and in the future workplace.
  • Build upon the strengths of students who have experienced difficulty in academic environments.
  • Participate in curriculum/material selection and development.
  • Participate as an active member of the school's community (e.g., parent-teacher conferences, meetings, open houses).
  • Assess and evaluate the results of all available educational, behavioral and psychological testing to determine baseline ability and achievement levels.
  • Accommodates students based on IEPs for each student consistent with the student’s ability level and achievement goals.
  • Develops and facilitates innovative, project-based, hands-on activities, and DIFFERENTIATED lesson plans consistent with the IEP.
  • Teacher must be flexible enough to be able to adapt to changes in the student and/or classroom.
  • Able to provide timely and accurate documentation.
  • Provide consistency and positive reinforcement throughout the classroom.
